Campus has been completely overwhelmed with snow, and I couldn’t be happier. We haven’t had school all week and even if they don’t cancel on Thursday, I still don’t have any classes that day.

However, as a result law has disintegrated into madness and we hunt our own kind in a fevered fury. For this reason, all three of these pictures:

  1. Between the jacket and the post-apocalyptic setting, I’m basically Mad Max at this point.
  2. I watch The Thing almost every time that it snows because it is THE BEST WINTER MOVIE EVER.
  3. We’re about to watch The Empire Strikes Back for reasons that should be pretty obvious.

Keep warm.

After literally one day of working, my computer broke, again for no reason. So here’s an incredible comic book cover by the Chris Sims/Rusty Shackles team.

Fuck Yeah, It’s Friday

(FYIF)

There’s been this thing going on where people come over my house on what are normally party nights (Friday, saturday) and we order pizza (or as close as Domino’s gets to pizza) and then watch a movie (tonight, it was Aliens.)
Watching Aliens tonight was particularly a delight. Not just because it’s one of the best action movies of all time, but because I had the distinct pleasure of watching it with people who hadn’t seen it before. And Aliens is a movie that is a THRILL RIDE for people who haven’t partaken. It succeeds on just about every level. A lot like a comparison of Empire Strikes Back Vs. Phantom Menace, the difference between Aliens and Avatar is that in the earlier movie, the director was still hungry, still working to make things happen. On the other hand, Avatar and Phantom Menace were captained by madmen with no one to tell them no and pockets deeper than hell (Which reminds me- Dante’s Inferno blows. Woof).
Anyway, mostly it was awesome to see people enjoying Aliens the way that I did when I saw it for the first time- Being surprised by every death, every jump scare, the INSANELY TENSE climax. Oof. Again, it tackles a lot of the same themes as Avatar, but the difference is that Aliens doesn’t browbeat you with them. The subtle menace of The Company doesn’t need a military stereotype or a jeremy piven-alike to make us understand. You just need a Paul Reiser trying to make his way in the world. God, what a fucking great movie. Anyway, here’s some other quick thoughts, since I’ve been bad at blogging lately:
In case you can’t tell, I’m excited for the Runaways movie. Double excited because I’m going to see it this friday with my band, which makes everything better.
I finally got my computer back. That’ll teach me to try to support local business. After going to an ACTUAL apple store, I got my computer back in fully working condition- as opposed to trying to save some time and giving my computer to Santa Claus’s angry, reclusive cousin in Princeton.
AC/DC Rules, you guys. I’m not afraid to say it. I am so happy that they’re doing the soundtrack to Iron Man 2. If you had told me that two years ago, I would have shit myself and told you that you were a liar. Whenever I’m stressed or angry I strap on my guitar and let Highway to Hell and Shoot to Thrill tear out of my amplifier as loud as campus safety will let me and I can feel all the grimy negative vibes get sandblasted off of me. Moments later, I feel shiny and clean as a Terminator (And just as deadly.)
In other Aliens news, I played through the new Aliens Vs. Predators game. It was… middling. The Marine parts were satisfactory, but had none of the features that are expected from a modern FPS. No squad control, no co-op mode, no cover system make for a very lazy outing. Still, great atmosphere and a plot that amounts to a remake of the Aliens Vs. Predator movie make for a pretty good rental, if not purchase.
School’s rough. I’ve been busy with everything ever, it seems. As usual, kicking as hard as I can just to keep my head above water- Woof.
That wraps up this weekend update. And, because I am a gracious man, here is a great song to go to sleep to, partying america.

Much love.

Which is funny because that’s pretty much how I feel about that song. Woof.
