Look At These Justice Hipsters
(Saving Brooklyn, one bike lane at a time!)
This is a thing I made.
It represents one of my firmly held beliefs.
I hope that you share my feelings, but if you don’t yet, that’s okay.
That’s what I’m here for.
All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely
To answer your questions, yes, I believe that we live in a pocket universe created by a comic book character to see what would happen if some poor universe was created without superheroes.
And I just have to share Jim’s crowning moment of bad-assery where he completely steals the book for three pages, and gives possibly the best bit of dialog in the entire thing.
“Then why do you not run?”
“I’m a news photographer. We don’t turn away, and we don’t run from the picture.”
“You and your kind would stay and die for a photograph?”
“No. We stay and die for the truth. Because that’s the only thing worth dying for.”[Superman Earth One]
Of all the things I loved about “Superman Earth One” (which I just read this morning) my favorite has to be Straczynski’s portrayal of Jimmy Olsen as a bad-ass photojournalist. Unfortunately, my scans of the book sucked. Fortunately, Elfgrove’s did not. — Ryking
Man, I can’t look t anything “Earth One” related without thinking of this AWESOMELY insightful comparison of Earth One and All-Star superman. Some of the best comics scholarship I’ve ever read.
